Obstacles come and obstacles go. How you handle the obstacles is what matters most.
I’ve noticed, at least in my life, there’s always some kind of obstacle that one must overcome. I often wonder why some of them seem to go on continuously. I guess it just makes us stronger if we can endure.
Obstacle One: You fight so hard to get into a class that is virtually impossible to get into and you finally get in, when all of a sudden you look around a couple of weeks later and it slips right through your fingers without warning.
You pray over it and of course, you don’t give up, so you find yourself in fight response again, you get the class back. So now, you can breathe again, leaving the fight response behind you.
Now, this isn’t just any old class. Rather, it is a means to a long-awaited end that leads to a new beginning for you.
So, the very next week, you’re faced with the exact same obstacle, (literally a repeat of the first one). That same class gets dropped yet again for no apparent reason. Your first thought is “Really?!!!”
So, you say another prayer over this situation, and then you jump right back in fight response, only this time with a vengeance. But then you wonder, “Is this the fight I’m supposed to fight?” Do you get upset and stress over it? Well, I did.
But that’s not the right thing to do because remember you prayed about it. So, You get the class back again. You figure the third time has got to be the charm. Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Obstacle Two: You recently get your life to a place of quiet and peace and center your works around this quiet place, only to learn that construction will be taking place possibly within weeks and it could obstruct your peaceful home/work environment which you prayed so hard for.
Now you’ve been in this environment for several years where there was quiet on the outside, but within your world was chaos and uncertainty, so the outside peace and quiet was merely a luxury rather than a necessity.
As soon as the quiet of the great outdoors becomes a requirement for day-to-day functioning within your personal space, you’re suddenly faced with the inevitable obstruction of your peace due to constant noise by day with no relief from the bump and thump of dump trucks, hammering, and who knows what else.
This seems to have been designed just for you to disturb your place of tranquility, so boom, like thunder, here’s yet another obstacle.
Now, the severity of the obstacle is what you want to assess before you act. If it’s an obstacle that you can do nothing about, then you want to try as much as possible to not stir over it. You just have to ride the storm and pray that it ends soon.
Sometimes, God allows these obstacles for various reasons, and sometimes he intervenes and moves them out of your way. I guess we’ll just have to see what his plans are for this one too.
I said all this to say, whatever your obstacle, don’t jump right into fight response. Try not to toil over it or get stressed out. Instead, wait a minute, think about it logically, pray, and then come up with an effective plan of action, with God’s guidance of course.
The plan of action may be just to be still and wait, or it may be to plow full speed ahead and never give up as I did in obstacle one.
Remember, “No Weapon Formed Against You Shall Prosper” and “You Can Do All Things Through God Who Strengthens You”.
How will you handle your obstacles? Think about it…
