Words Can Be Powerful….

A couple of days ago, I had one of many interesting conversations with a dear relative.  He enjoys encouraging others to remain faithful to God and stay positive.

As I was having one of my moments, he reminded me that “death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21).

He elaborated further by explaining that words are very powerful and we should NOT get in the habit of speaking negative words over our lives because it can have a detrimental impact on our present situations as well as our future.

I imagine that many of us think nothing of expressing that essence of hopelessness and negativity about certain aspects of our lives when we feel uncertain.

I don’t believe that any of us set out to sabotage our lives, but we may speak negatively out of fear.  Perhaps, in our young lives, we were programmed to believe that we were less than good enough by someone we held in high regards and thought their opinion of us was truth.

So, negative thoughts can become habit forming if we’re not careful.  Some of us never stop to think that our perception could, in fact, become a reality if it is believed long enough and if we continue to speak negatively.

A perfect example of the conversation I had was concerning my own doubts about my ability to conquer a particular area of academic studies.  I was immediately corrected and reminded that if I believe I don’t have the capacity to finish strong, this could become my reality and I could fail at my attempt to be successful.  He said that I need to understand that God can renew my mind and give me infinite knowledge to get through a challenge like academics.

Finally, he reminded me that through prayer, faith in God, and speaking positively, each of us has the power in our tongues to change our lives.  This, in turn, allows us to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives because positivity is a powerful driving force.

So, when you find yourself feeling challenged and unsure about your abilities, don’t speak negatively about it, Instead, remind yourself that YOU can do it!  Envision yourself succeeding and you just might succeed.  If it’s about love, envision yourself surrounded by love and I imagine that will become your reality, as well!

Speak Life!….
